The Friends of the Library invite you to the Schulenburg Public Library Monday, December 5 from 5 p.m.  to 7:30 p.m.to participate in our community St. Nicholas Day Celebration.  An interactive, educational and festive German and Dutch traditional program will be held for Children and Adults alike.  St Nick himself, will be located in the Children’s Area of the Library.  He will tell the history of St. Nick, also known as Sinterklaas, St. Nicholaus at 5:30 and at 6:30.  He speaks Dutch, German, a little French, and of course, Texan.   St. Nicholas (also spelled Nikolas and Nikolaus), and known as Sinterklaas in the Netherlands, is the Patron Saint of Children who helped the poor.  His Feast continues to be celebrated on December 6.  Children are encouraged to bring St. Nicholas a personalized note, poem, picture, or homemade craft as he will provide them with a treat to take home.

Christmas songs from Germany and Austria will be performed throughout the evening by Das ist Lustig “That’s Fun”.  As one sings along to the American holiday favorites,  Yodeling, Cowbells, Alpine horn and a singing saw will be presented.    Ross is one of the most talented and dynamic German folk accordionists in Texas.  He was born in Houston and is from German decent.  Valina is high energy, very enthusiastic about folk music, sings,  and plays various folk instruments.  She is a Houstonian born of Dutch/German descent.  They both are dynamic performers.

In addition to the entertainment provided, children will have an opportunity to make their own keepsake ornament in the Meeting Room.   Wassail, Sinterklaas treats (gingerbread cookies), appetizers and more will be provided.  Please feel welcome to join us for the entire event or drop by for a few minutes as we provide an evening of fun for your family.
